Trolling for Muskie with a Chubbie
Downrod, outrod, boards or riggers, Chubbie was designed to be an easy trolling muskie bait. Chubbie has a satisfying action you can see and feel on your rod tip yet it’s lighter pull helps keep it in planer board and downrigger clips. Try running it short on a downrod or 45-65' off the boards–at 3.7 and 5mph. Long line it or slow roll it on the riggers. Just watch your rod tip and adjust speed to achieve the desired action.
Casting for Musky with a Chubbie
Compact and responsive, Chubbie is fun and easy to cast. Bomb it, flip it, crank it or twitch it. Aggressive sweeps can make the lure kick side to side. Great to nose around rocks and bounce bottom–if the lip hangs up just give some slack so the bait can back off and float up over the obstacle–twitch and go. 10-15’ from the boat, pause and let Chubbie rise–throw in a twitch part way up. Figure 8’s like a champ.
